Gilberto Camacho - Ph.D. Student

Gilberto was born in Mexico City and raised in Tlaxcala, Mexico.
He received his undergraduate degree in Biotechnology Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Tlaxcala, Mexico.
After that, he went to Scotland and received his MSc in Sensor and Imaging Systems, from the University of Glasgow and The University of Edinburgh.
He moved to Toronto in 2021 and joined the Wheeler Lab, where he started working on Immunoassays and Digital Microfluidics for COVID-19. His particular interest is in the integration of Digital Microfluidics with novel Biosensor technologies for portable, rapid, and low-cost pathogen detection, including SARS-CoV2.
Outside of the lab, he enjoys doing some science communication on his YouTube channel “Camach Learn”. Moreover, he likes to go cycling around Toronto, play football soccer, eat at McDonald’s, discover any random places, and enjoy nature.
